We are a family owned and ran company who have always had a passion for animals and their well being.
Take a moment to read our story here....
1944
Eddie Kell at the age of 8 develops a passion for rabbits, in particular the Dutch breed.
1966
Eddie and Pauline Kell started their business with just 12 hens. Offering fresh eggs for the local villages of Browney, Meadowfield and Brandon. The business proves popular and gradually hen numbers increase year on year.
1971
As the business grew, so did the hens, now with an average of over 6,000 hens producing eggs for the local villages as well as shops and catering businesses. Alongside this they had a wholesale fruit and vegetable business supplying shops, takeaways and even the prisons in County Durham with fresh produce. Growth also meant we now had two shops retailing in the area. Along with the growth the business now trades as ‘Eggy Shell’.
1990
We started to retail from our Browney store with a small range of animal feeds
2009
Sean (son of Eddie & Pauline) takes over the reigns after a decade working in retail himself. The business is rebranded as ‘The Feed Warehouse’ along with a new logo to match.
2013
With a constant growth in business and simply outgrowing our storage at the Browney store, we decide to purchase Store No.2 at Consett! This was a former car showroom and repair garage with a large yard for artic access to help us buy bigger and better.
2015
We update our logo to bring a bit more of our company colours into it. The logo is both Copyrighted and Trademarked for futureproofing.
2016
We introduce our own range of feeds for Equine, Dog, Cat, Ferret and Wild Bird.
